His studies are focussing on parallel systems, especially focused on optimizations of numeric algorithms for cell processors and cell processor clusters. He is a long term free software programmer and initiator of the s3d project, which tries to provide a 3d desktop experience build on top of the X11 server environment. Lately he was involved in the B.A.T.M.A.N. project, an free software WiFi mesh protocol, not only as a programmer but also by helping companies to integrate B.A.T.M.A.N. into their products and supporting the standardization of the protocol in form of a RFC draft.

[edit] Elisabeth Rank

Elisabeth Rank is working as a journalist and studying media and culture at the FU (Free University) and HU (Humbold University) in Berlin, Germany at the same time. Her natural interest for the "open development" idea is fuelled by the growing attention to the movement in the German media itself. Elisabeth came in contact with the movement when she wrote an article about the "Freifunk" (free wireless) and when she worked at the 9to5-Festival. Elisabeth is neither by no means an IT expert and admittedly not particularly interested in the too technical topics covered during the summit. However, she wants to translate and interpret the topics and discussions at the summit and thus make them available to and foremost understandable by a broader audience. In her opinion the summit's topics are of interest to almost everybody and therefore should be communicated outside the community.

[edit] Walis Buya

My name is Walis Buya, now working as database manager in Taipei. I have cared about the issue of maintaining indigenous people dialects since 2001 when I was in the university. During that time, I got indigenous ethnic language and assistance teacher certificates. To get the language certificate to maintain and promote indigenous people dialects is also the government’s policy, but the deficiencies in this policy are clear. In the end of 2006, I met some friends from the Group of Free Software. They gave me lots of inspiration, especially Arne Götje and Andrew who gave me many directions and assistances to solve the difficulties of this issue. What I have learned from this group is that developing the indigenous ethic language learning software is crucial for to issue. Now, the blueprint of this project becomes more and more clear, and it motivate me to decide to share the Free Software spirit I experienced in the Group of Free Software with people in Truku tribal area and other different indigenous people. I am looking forward seeing the bright future of this project. I am so glad that I have this chance to share these with all of you. Thank you.
