[edit] B.A.T.M.A.N.

B.A.T.M.A.N. is a new approach to Ad-Hoc-Routing, enabling usual 802.11 compatible WiFi devices like laptops, access points and cell phones to automatically organize themselves in a Mesh Network cloud. With this, even city-wide networks can be deployed, while the topology organization and routing is handled by the Routing protocol B.A.T.M.A.N.


B.A.T.M.A.N.是一個新的 Ad-Hoc Routing 演算法,現在都相容於 WiFi 802.11 設備,例如筆記型電腦、無線基地台路由器和手機等,主動建立所有的路由到 Mesh Network 中。使用這方法,就連數個城市規模的網路都能用 B.A.T.M.A.N. 的演算法來處理 Topology 而建立起來。


In the workshop, we will introduce the ideas and concepts behind B.A.T.M.A.N. and build our own mesh network on embedded routers. We will use tools to visualize the network and give an introduction how to debug and optimize the layer 2 mesh. We also will talk about usage scenarios and implementation details.


在Workshop的時候,我們將會介紹 B.A.T.M.A.N. 背後主要的想法和概念,並建立起我們自己的 Mesh Network 到嵌入式路由器中。我們會使用特別的方式來使網路具體化,並且介紹該怎麼在 Layer 2 的 Mesh 上來 debug 和 最佳化。 我們也會提到使用方法和實做的細節。

freifunk.net is a non-commercial free open wireless community initiative, founded in 2003 with roots in Germany. It is part of the global movement for free wireless networks. freifunk.net aims not only to provide technical and general information about open wireless networks, but also seeks to help individuals and organizations raise public consciousness about freedom of information and communication. The activities have expanded way beyond Germany and the topics addressed reach out to all aspects of free communication infrastructures, such as the development of new innovative technologies, spectrum licensing politics or lobbying hardware manufacturers for the global availability of inexpensive and FOSS compliant hardware.

Freifunk.net 是一個在德國2003年由當地居住的人所發起的非貿易的、免費的、自由的、開放的無線網路社群首創組織。而這計畫也只是全球許多 Free 無線網路潮流中的一小部份而已。

CanTV is a system Geekcorps developed to enable local radio stations in rural Mali to broadcast audio/video content over WiFi in their village. Antennas are mostly hand-made and easily fixable and installable by the radio staff. The antenna cost around 33$ ($25 for the WiFi receiver) and is plugged to the 12V car batteries used to power-up the televisions.

The workshop will feature the creation of a directional Cantenna from scratch. We will also discuss the efficiency of various common materials and wireless network buildings depending on the needs (mesh, managed, ad-hoc).

[edit] OpenFM

OpenFM is an FM radio emitter designed for Mali. It is dust and heat proof, it's cheap (around $2000 components) and open: all it's specifications and documentation is available freely on the Internet. The first pilot is still in use near the Sahara border, serving a range of 60km.

This session will briefly expose the history of the project ; from the initial needs to the current utilization around the world.

[edit] OpenPattern

OpenPattern is a project aiming at developping a truly open-hardware platform called OMRP (Openpattern Modular Routing Platform) to be implemented at an infrastructure board as well as a HomeNetworking platform and core routing applications. The design is based on the development of a softcore to be used to implement the routing tasks between network interfaces (wired, wireless, SDIO ...) and host a true embedded OS for implementation of respectable project such as OpenWRT on top of it. The hardware design is released under the GPL v2 and gets the support from the wireless opensource community as a potential highly configurable platform.

KDE is an international technology team that creates Free Software for desktop and portable computing. Among KDE's products are a modern desktop system for Linux and UNIX platforms, comprehensive office productivity and groupware suites and hundreds of software titles in many categories including Internet and web applications, multimedia, entertainment, educational, graphics and software development. KDE software is translated into more than 60 languages and is built with ease of use and modern accessibility principles in mind. KDE 4 is the latest and greatest avatar of KDE. KDE4's full-featured applications run natively on Linux, BSD, Solaris, Windows and Mac OS X.

[edit] OpenPCD

OpenPCD is both a Free Hardware design for a 13.56MHz RFID reader, as well as a a 100% Free Software RFID stack and reader firmware implementation. It supports protocols such as ISO 14443 A+B, ISO 15693, Mifare Classic. As opposed to commercial mass market readers, it has a number of analog, digital and software interfaces to access the various signal processing steps and experiment with low-level protocol aspects of RFID. The hardware schematics and gerber files are available under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license, all driver software and firmware source code is licensed under GNU GPL.

A Programmable Embedded Remote Photographing and Monitoring Platform with High Resolution Digital Camera
(搭載高解析度數位相機之可程式化嵌入式遠端攝影及監視平台)


We design a programmable embedded platform which disposes a high-resolution digital camera. In order to achieve the goal of controlling digital camera remotely through the Internet, functions of network are integrated on the proposed platform. For expanding the utilization, the embedded platform also includes facilities of plug-in manager and script interpreter. Thus the developer and end user can execute specific scripts by themselves.

To verify the usability of the proposed embedded platform under limited system resources, we have implemented a remote image capture and monitor system, which was realized successfully functions of image-capture, remote monitoring and customized extension on application with lower consumption of memory.


我們設計一個可以搭載高畫素數位相機的可程式化嵌入式系統平台,此平台是以Linux作業系統為基礎,並整合了網路服務的功能。 在平台中我們還設計了一個外掛管理系統及描述語言直譯器,讓應用系統開發者及使用者可以藉由我們所定義的簡易描述語言,依照不同的需求來開發應用功能,以提高平台可用性及擴充性。

為了驗證此平台在有限的系統資源下仍可以有效的運作,我們實作了一個遠端攝影及監視系統,並且成功的以較低的記憶體使用率來實現了具備可程化及可擴充攝影應用功能的遠端攝影及監視系統。


A Wall of High Resolution Television base on Embedded System
(基於嵌入式系統之超高解析度電視牆)


我們將多個嵌入式裝置透過網路組成一個具有超高解析度的電視牆,並且能夠隨時的增加或減少裝置的數量以滿足不同的顯示需求。這些裝置使用了我們修改過的解碼器,只需要極少的資源便可即時從數千萬畫素的圖片中解出需要顯示的部份。 我們將展示使用這套系統,以原始的解析度來顯示數位相機所拍攝的相片。
